Great Weekend on the bands

Finally, the propagation Gods smiled upon us this weekend!!  The HF bands have been just singing with signals, and mostly good DX signals.

The best band all weekend just had to be 10m.  In fact I spent most of my time there on Sunday and Monday.  There were many comments about not hearing 10m open world-wide like this for many, many years.  There were times it was a challenge to find an open spot to call CQ the band was that busy.

Lets hope we have a repeat of this in two weeks for the CQ WW SSB Contest.....wouldn't that be a blast!!

Best contact of the weekend?  It had to be TX5D in Raivavae, French Polynesia.  Broke the pileup and got him on the first call.....made my day!

  1. Funny thing I was on Saturday late afternoon and 10m was not alive at all....timing is everything!

    1. Hi Mike, On Saturday I never turned a rig on, far too busy doing stuff around the house. I turned on the HF rig, almost by accident, on Sunday morning and that's where I stayed.

  2. Glad to see you could push yourself away from the dinner table and make a couple of contacts... great one BTW.... Sounds like the new antennas at your place along with the 950 will be a station that lots will hear in the upcoming contest...

    1. Hi Bob, I managed to save a wee bit of food so I could have left overs ;-) You won't hear the 950 on the CQ WW SSB Contest at the end of the month. A couple of us are going to my brother-in-laws cottage for that weekend to operate, so it will be the 857D and portable wire antennas up in the trees. I'm planning on using a VA3QV :-)
